The Blue House Selfcatering, La Digue
Welcome to the Blue House, a rustic Colonial style residence offering the extraordinary vacation, get away experience in the Seychelles and a dog lover's paradise. Five minutes stroll to the local island jetty, about 10 minutes to the beautiful Anse Severe Beach, and a short bike ride to all the other beautiful beaches of La Digue.
The Blue House reflects great character and patina unequalled on La Digue. It stands in a lush, eco friendly informal tropical garden sanctuary (a former coconut and spice plantation) rich in diverse wild life.
My name is Rita Hinder, a Seychellois national, recently returned to the Seychelles, having lived and worked for many years as a registered nurse and swimming instructor in England. I now live with a beautiful and charming group of 23 rescued dogs and several cats on La Digue Island.
Talking about dogs, one special bonus of the Blue House is being excitedly greeted by my family of joyful animal on your return in the evening from your beach excursions. Come and live amongst these beautiful canine characters. Learn from their behavior interacting between themselves. Observe their natural way of communication and watch them play with the cats and with each other in a garden haven of 5.500 m2.
The Blue House is different in many ways to most self catering accommodation here on La Digue. You will be enjoying the ambiance of the upstairs (approximately 50m2) first floor consisting of a large double attic bedroom leading out to an airy vestibule with two viewing balconies, one over looking the garden frontage and the other over looking the back garden with it's abundance of lime trees and other variety of fruit trees. Your very own private bathroom offers a view of the immense greenery of the garden frontage and also the colourful redness and orange blossoms of the flowering flame trees during the month of late November to December. At dawn and at dusk, one will hear the delightful whistling of the rare Paradise Fly Catcher only found on La Digue feeding on insects living in the Indian Almond and Takamaka trees growing on the property.
You are welcome to use the whole house including the big La Digue island style wooden kitchen, enjoy breakfast on the large veranda with full view of the front garden. Feel free to visit the orchard to pick any fruits in season. Make yourself at home, be a part of the Blue House and it's canine residence and love every moment of your stay.
