Self Catering La Digue

many dogs on la digue

This website is dedicated to my first dog Jet, who passed away at the young age of four and to poor little Raphaella as well as to my Lucy and to Mummy Sheba, who all died too early. Thank you all of having entered and touched our lives.

Jet my number one little diamond, my little man who came into my world at the age of three months. He was my first companion, my first dog rescued from the Jetty severely dehydrated, critically weak and in pain from a large infected wound on his side.
He transformed into a confident, affectionate little gentleman who brought so much laughter into my soul, taught me so much about endurance, patience, love, hope and gave me much inspiration to care for the rest of our rescued members of the family. He was respected and loved by all the dogs. He sadly passed away quietly and peacefully in my presence on the evening of 21st June 2014 at the young age of 4 years old after he was savagely attacked by three stray dogs venturing into his garden. That night, a part of me died with him .

Allow me to introduce you to each of my little bright, inspiring stars who entered my world and turned it totally upside down.

The three Musketeers
Lola, Lucy, Luka (their sister Lulu was later adopted to a caring home) were found abandoned at the age of four weeks in the sanctuary of the Blue House garden. Jet showed much affection and devotion towards them and he spent many hours watching over them.

The Magnificent Seven
Tinkerbell, Camel, Fleur, Smokie, Florentine, Benja, Azura. They were born in a cave overlooking a spectecular view of the Indian Ocean and Anse Severe Beach. Their mother Sheba was a stray who relied on many visitors to share their food. She would even kill chicken to feed her pups. They arrived at the Blue House at the age of four month, because otherwise they would have been poisioned on the beach.

And all the others ;-)

My first dog Jet

Jet
my sole companion, so gentle by nature and a delight in the company of humans, who helped me to care for the many rescued dogs and cats who walked into both our lives during the past years. I´ll miss him forever...

The three Musketeers

lucie

Lola
The head girl. She is known as the duchess of La Passe, because of her graceful elegance. She keeps the herd under control and will scoll them when they go out of line. Lola is totally chilled out, loving and adoringly passionate watching my every move.

lola dog

Lucy
Mischievously cunning with a tendency to escape from the garden. She has a gaze that looks right through you wriggles with delight. Sister of Luka and Lola, 4,5 years old died in my arms in the presence of Lola and Jessie.

seychelles dog luca

Luka
Big Luka who thinks he is Boss around the place and at times behaving like a grumpy old man growling at any dog crowding his space. He loves to present himself in a mancho stance which everyone ignores – in reality Luka is a big baby and adores attention and a lot of fussing over.

The magnificent seven

Tinkerbell
Tinkie does not miss much that is going on around her. She is very energetic and will challenge the boys with their boisterious games. She is solidly sturdy and strong, adores her cuddles to the extent that she becomes totally babyish. Read her story on the website.

camel

Camel
This wonderful handsome male, a gentleman at heart with so much love to give. Very shy and will discretely sit away from the herd during treat time, watching and eagerly waiting patiently until his name is called. He needs constant reassurance and lots of cuddles.

Fleur
Well, what can I say about Fleur? Cheeky little madam she gets a thrill when walking on a lead. She trots along with much elegance and confidence, head raised high with an air of royalty. She has a truly colorful personality which shines out from the group.

lola dog

Smokie
Flirty, Cheeky, loving and playful, but will occasionally show some aggression to the others especially towards the smaller dogs when her position is being threatened. She smiles with embarassment when she has been caught doing something naughty.

lola dog

Florentine
Fairly timid little individual who tries so hard to please the group. She cowers down to them when she greets them but if pushed around she will retaliate. Shy, humble little lady, bubbling with so much affection to offer to the world. She is a little treasure and doesn´t ask for much.

lola dog

Benja
Beautiful Benja who has inherited her mothers eyes, always totally calm, attentive and rarely complains. Sadly she had hot water thrown at her when she trespassed onto private grounds, leaving her scared for life. Traumatised during the 8 weeks of nursing care, but has recovered and is happy.

lola dog

Azura
She was one of the smallest of the group as a puppy, but has now caught up in size. Like her sister Benja, she too had hot water poured over her back but is back to full fitness. Sadly no fur will regrow at the injury site.

The great Mum

lola dog

Sheba
mother of Camel, Tinkerbell, Fleur, Smokie, Benja, Azura, Florentine, Fefe and Rosie. Sadly died after a few month of safe and happy life at the Blue House.

And all the lovely others

lola dog

Zak (Zachariah)
The rebel of the pack was brought to the Blue House at the age of three months looking very sorry for himself, bewildered and confused. He has so much love to give, adores teasing everyone and so eager to please. Highly intelligent, with eyes that reflect much understanding and total attention when speaking with him.

Joy
known as the water baby she was rescued from the riverbank in critically ill conditions. She has a joy for life entices all the other dogs to chase her along the garden. A timid little soul who will hide away amongst the vegetation when we have visitors. Requires much reassurance and needs to believe in herself.

Megan
This little madam is so gentle and easy going and yet so very stubborn. She is the proud mother of Angelina, Anna and Alexia who are now one year old having been seduced by big boy Camel at the blink of an eye after she was briefly let out into the garden. Delightfully contented in herself.

lola dog

Raphaela
sister of Cloe, she tragically passed away at the young age of seven months.

lola dog

Cloe
Abandoned in the march, simply because she was female. She is rather reserved but loves being cuddled.

dog fifi on la digue

Fifi
The terrible two, partners in crime, who will find a way of breaking out to swim in the river.
Fifi adores nibbling on my clothes as she strolls alongside me in the garden whilst Rosie is out exploring. The two sisters are happier in each others company than hanging out with the rest of the herd.

Amazingly chilled out in so many ways. He has a habit to come and lean against anyone and then flop himself down beside ones feet. Extremely affectionate and delightfully charming.
